After visits to national parks and seeing no big cats for many years I had practically written off the jungle. I got my outdoor refresher every weekend playing golf. In 2007 I saw Machli, the Lady of the Lakes at Ranthambore. This was my first tiger sighting in the wild. She walked towards me in very close proximity to the Jeep. If I had stuck my hand out I could have touched her. My heart stopped beating as I sat motionless watching her pass with a distinct sense of fear. As she walked away from our Jeep I returned to my senses, turned and saw her charge a sambar. I had seen a tiger leap no further than 20 yards away from me. That infamous leap demonstrated the strength and agility of the tiger and made me want to come back for more.
